Sophie Hofmann joins the DTM Trophy as first female driver

Sophie Hofmann will start in the new DTM Trophy championship with Superdrink by Car Republic for the six-events season.

The DTM-organizer ITR will launch a new exciting supporting series for the premiere German touring cars 2020 season - named DTM Trophy. Entries will be close-to-series GT cars with rear wheel drive, suitable for the FIA-group E2-SH and E2-SC regulations. That means a direct competitor to the ADAC GT4 Germany.

The series will be a part of the DTM race weekends at the following events:

Zolder (24.–26. April)

Lausitzring (15.–17. May)

Anderstorp (12.–14. June)

Norisring (10.–12. July)

Nürburgring (11.–13. September)

Hockenheimring (2.–4. October).

With the typical DTM championship points system, all starters will need a D-license without a pro or amateur class and there will be three championship divisions: driver, team and junior classifications (under 22 years/born 1998 or younger). The winner of the junior championship will gain a test drive in a DTM car after the 2020 season finale.

Young German driver Sophie Hofmann will be one of the candidates for the junior championship, as the 21 year-old lady announced that she will join the series with Superdrink by Car Republic, next to YouTube-Star Felix von der Laden.

Sophie started her career in karting and then switched to the Special-Touringcar-Trophy (short STT) in 2018. Last year, she had some guest starts in the Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup as well. She then got to know the secrets of the Audi R8 LMS GT4 and will be ready to take the start of the brand-new championship from the first round in Zolder, on 24th-26th April. Hofmann is so far among the first drivers announced to the series and the first woman.
