Chloe Grant achieved her second top-five finish of the GB4 Championship season at Silverstone, recovering from eighth on the grid to fifth in race three, showcasing her racecraft in the close battles.
Despite a challenging weekend at Silverstone, Chloe Grant achieved her second top-five finish of the season in the GB4 Championship after a remarkable drive in race three that saw the Scottish racer recover from eighth on the grid to fifth across the finish line.
Grant's other top five finish came at the season opener at Oulton Park, when she stood on the podium with a second place in the reverse grid race. While some of her following rounds were marred by bad luck, unfortunate incidents or technical issues, Chloe had a strong third round at Donington, bagging a pair of sixth place finishes in race 1 and 2, highlighting a significant step forward in both qualifying and race pace.
At Snetterton, Grant achieved a best result of eighth, in a character-building weekend for KMR Sport driver, who ran solidly within the midfield but was caught up in unfortunate incidents in both races one and three, and battled an engine issue that limited her track time earlier in the weekend.
Aiming to bounce back at Silverstone, Grant progressively built speed over the testing and practice sessions prior to the event; she was eighth and ninth fastest in Thursday's sessions, and again just outside the top ten in Friday practice, completing a total of 56 laps.
In qualifying, Linus Granfors took double pole position as the only driver under the 2:01 mark. Chloe Grant's 11th fastest times in both the best and second-best lap classifications meant she would have to charge from the sixth row of the grid in both race one and two.
On a dry and sunny track at Silverstone, the race began with Linus Granfors having a good launch from pole and maintained his lead, but immediately faced pressure from Callum Baxter, who was in a close battle with Lucas Blakely. Alisha Palmowski soon joined them, managing to climb up to third by passing Baxter into Stowe.
From eleventh on the grid, Chloe Grant was locked in a battle with Megan Bruce for the top ten positions: Chloe attacked Bruce into Brooklands, but Bruce defended well, leading to a lengthy battle. Grant finally made her move stick on lap three, taking P10 from Bruce, who initially tried to keep up.
Once in clear air, though, Chloe immediately set competitive lap times, lapping at 2:03.2, almost a second faster than the cars immediately ahead. This pace allowed her to hunt down Hickey, whom she caught within a lap.
Grant and Hickey engaged in a fierce battle, but both were eventually overtaken by the charging Finn Harrison, who snatched ninth place on lap eight. Chloe kept up the pressure on Hickey over the final minutes of the race, determined to reclaim the tenth position.
On the final lap, Grant launched a decisive attack on Hickey, resulting in an almost photo-finish, but she crossed the line just 0.151 seconds behind, settling for P11. However, post-race penalties promoted her to P10, marking a solid race where she made up one position from the start.
Granfors took a lights-to-flag victory, finishing half a second clear of Lucas Blakely, with Alisha Palmowski rounding out the podium.
Granfors started from pole again in race two, with Chloe lining up in 11th and aiming for more progress. Unfortunately, Grant picked up a puncture and had to pit at the end of lap one, putting her almost a minute behind the rest of the pack when she was sent back on track.
Despite this setback, Chloe never gave up and ran competitive lap times. Albeit in a lonely race, Grant maintained a strong pace, eventually picking up positions on Wilson, Hickey and Baxter when they also hit trouble.
Up ahead, the battle for second and third allowed Lucas Blakely to build a significant margin, as he drove away to a dominant victory with a 14-second gap. Granfors came under pressure on the final laps but managed to secure second place, with Harry Burgoyne finishing third.
Despite the challenging start, Chloe kept Baxter behind and took the chequered flag in 10th place, with her solid pace a positive takeaway ahead of race 3.
The reverse grid race was the final event of the weekend at Silverstone, and featured an all-female front row with series newcomer Ava Dobson lining up on pole, alongside Megan Bruce. Chloe Grant started from eighth, eager to capitalize on the reverse grid opportunity.
The start was delayed, and an extra formation lap was added; some drivers, however, mistakenly started the race, leading to a red flag and a new starting procedure.
When the lights finally went out, Ava Dobson stalled from pole, allowing Megan Bruce to take the lead ahead of Harrison and Taylor.
Grant had a brilliant getaway and was soon battling for the top five after a handful of corners; despite a big moment into Becketts, where Chloe saved a big slide, she kept the car on track and made up a position at the same time, executing a superb charge in the hectic first laps.
A crash involving Wilson and Baxter eventually brought out the safety car, bunching up the field. With less than five minutes remaining, the race resumed: Harrison had a perfect restart from the lead, while behind him, Bruce and Grant battled fiercely for fourth place. Chloe completed a move into Club corner and moved up to P4, but then had to defend her position from teammate Blakely, who eventually overtook her at Stowe on lap five.
Meanwhile, Harrison had built a three-second gap at the front, thanks to a three-car battle for the podium positions behind him. Taylor held on to take second place, with Templeton finishing third.
After a very positive race three, Chloe Grant crossed the finish line in fifth place, securing her second top-five finish of the season.
Despite not achieving the desired results in races one and two, Grant fought back with a convincing final contest of the weekend, where she collected her second-best finish of the season to date, showing great racecraft and determined battles just outside the podium positions.
She now sits tenth in the championship standings, with 140 points to her name with two rounds to go. The next event will be held at Donington Park on 7-8 September, where Grant had one of her most positive weekends in the series so far and will aim to build on that success.
