Léna Bühler to race in Formula Regional Asia

Léna Bühler will race in the last two rounds of the upcoming Formula Regional Asian Championship, as the Swiss racer joins 3Y Technology by R-ace GP.

Formula Regional Asian Championship – formerly known as F3 Asia – continues to be a great training ground for F3 drivers getting ready for their European campaigns and 2022 will be no different. Particularly, the series has seen the rise of several female racers eager to get mileage in Formula 3 machinery in a very competitive field.

There will be another high-profile female racer on the grid of this year's Formula Regional Asian Championship: Swiss driver Léna Bühler, who joins 3Y Technology by R-ace GP for the final two rounds of the season.

After a remarkable career in karting at national and international level, Bühler made the step up to Spanish Formula 4 in 2020 with Drivex. Léna had a very solid campaign and continued to climb the order throughout the season: she was a consistent presence around the top-10 and claimed two top-five finishes at Aragon and Barcelona, as well as a front-row start at Jarama.

Bühler moved to Formula Regional European Championship in 2021, joining French squad R-ace GP. An injury to her hand picked up during pre-season testing at Imola meant that the 24-year old driver had to miss the season opener. She joined the series at Barcelona and showed good potential and progress despite the missing mileage and a strong +30 car field, one of the most competitive in the world of junior formulae.

Bühler recorded her best finish of the year on the streets of Monaco, with her first Top-20. She struggled in the second half of the season due to engine issues, but had solid finishes at Zandvoort, Valencia and Monza, where she was often the protagonist of remarkable comebacks.

Bühler is thus eyeing a good preparation ahead of her main program in Europe, which has not been revealed yet. She will race at Dubai Autodrome on 12-13 February and on 19-20 February at YAS Marina, Abu Dhabi, in the two events supporting Asian Le Mans Series.

3Y Technology is operated by R-ace GP – the same team that ran Bühler in FRECA; the UAE-based outfit will also field Francesco Braschi, Lorenzo Fluxa, Gabriel Bortoleto and Oliver Goethe.

Léna Bühler will not be the only female driver on track, as she will be joined by Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi, in an all-family team by Prema Powerteam/Abu Dhabi Racing.

Female representation in the series has historically seen quality entries, such as Vivien Keszthelyi and Miki Koyama in 2019, freshly-crowned W Series champion Jamie Chadwick and Tatiana Calderon in 2020 and Irina Sidorkova and Amna Al Qubaisi in 2021.

The action will get underway on January 19-20th with the pre-season tests, while the first round is scheduled for January 21-23 at Abu Dhabi.
