McLaren Driver Development Programme member Ella Lloyd, who is set to tackle her rookie season in F1 Academy after contesting her first year in single seaters in British F4, announced she will contest a double campaign with Rodin Motorsport also fielding the Welsh racer in the 2025 British F4.
“I’m extremely excited to announce that I will competing in the 2025 British F4 championship as a dual program alongside F1 Academy with Rodin Motorsport and McLaren, I can’t wait to return for my second season in single seaters and looking forward to seeing what we can do as a team”, Lloyd commented.
The program mirrors Abbi Pulling’s 2024 effort with Rodin Motorsport, where she maximized the track time from both series and resulted in a maiden victory in British F4 and the title in F1 Academy.
Ella Lloyd will therefore also aim to continue her development in Formula 4 machinery with a busy season in both the all-female and the mixed-gender championships, granting her plenty of seat time and opportunities to learn at the wheel of the Tatuus T421.
LLoyd, who impressed in the 2023 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT Championship by securing vice champion honours in the GT5 Pro category, having scored ten victories at seven different circuits, made the switch to single seaters in 2024, when she entered select rounds of the Formula Winter Series with Rodin Motorsport.
Lloyd went on to enjoy a remarkable British F4 campaign with JHR Developments, securing four podiums – three of which runner up positions. With 13 top-ten finishes out of 27 races, she finished the season in 11th place in the standings, with 99 points to her name.
Lloyd displayed great speed in both qualifying and races and was selected as the Wild Card for the F1 Academy Singapore round, where she scored points twice. Her performances did not go unnoticed, and she was announced as a member of the McLaren Driver Academy for the 2025 F1 Academy championship.
The 19-year-old will now return to Rodin Motorsport, representing British team McLaren, in both F1 Academy and British F4, which recently announced the introduction of the new Challenge Cup, a class for the 2025 season dedicated to drivers entering 7 of the 10 scheduled rounds. F1 Academy will in fact feature three calendar clashes with the British-based series.
“It’s great to welcome Ella into the British F4 team this year", said Benn Huntingford, Sporting Director at Rodin Motorsport. "This dual programme will give her a lot of seat time and experience at this level, which will be fantastic for her development. She has shown brilliant promise so far and we are looking forward to seeing her develop this year.”
