Ruby Smith opened her second season in the Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship with a pair of top-15 finishes at Silverstone. Racing on the iconic Grand Prix circuit, the teenager racer drove confidently throughout the weekend and continued her momentum from her rookie season in the competitive one-make championship.
After qualifying in 18th, two strong drives in races one and two resulted in 15th place finishes, before a technical issue in race three led to an unfortunate retirement.
Following a successful partial season in the Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship in 2024, Smith returned to the series looking to build upon her progress. Ruby took significant strides forward in her first season of car racing as she pushed towards the top-15 at both Croft and Silverstone during the middle portion of the season.
Despite lacking the experience of many of her rivals, Smith adapted quickly to the one-make championship and was now looking to use the knowledge gained to progress further. Two rounds of the 2024 Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship were held at Silverstone, however none on the Grand Prix layout and therefore it was a new challenge for all the drivers.
The first official session of the weekend was qualifying which was held over just fifteen-minutes on Saturday morning. Smith was quickly setting a good pace with her initial laps placing her just outside the overall top-15. At the end of the session, her fastest lap of a 2:29.110 placed her in 18th position out of a strong 27 car field.
Race one of the weekend was held on Saturday afternoon with Smith lining up from 18th on the grid. It was a clean start from Ruby and although she lost two positions on the first lap, she was quickly on the move. After passing Ryan Edgecumbe, Smith ran almost side-by-side with Edgecumbe and Daniel Budd as the trio began lap three.
A fantastic battle then saw Smith overtake Budd, while falling behind Edgecumbe as she maintained a position inside the top-20. On lap four, Ruby gained two positions following technical issues for both Charlie Budd and Bradley Burns with the latter retiring from the overall race lead following driveshaft failure.
With three laps remaining, Smith passed Edgecumbe to move into 16th before setting a personal best time which was quicker than the next three drivers ahead. An action-packed final lap saw Ruby fall behind Daniel Budd, while overtaking both Ben Taylor and Jonathan Williams with the latter retiring from the race. As a result, Smith ended the first race of the season in a solid 15th place to underline the progress she had made in the off-season.

Following her strong race one result, Smith started Sunday morning’s race two from 15th position with the grid positions based on the results from the previous day. Smith made an excellent start and gained one position on the first lap despite losing out to a hard-charging Bradley Burns. On lap two, she fell behind Charlie Budd and Jonathan Williams but now Ruby had a comfortable gap behind her.
The middle portion of the race was fairly quiet as Smith focused on setting fast and consistent lap times. This allowed her to remain in 16th position and following an engine issue for Will Stacey, the race ended prematurely with his car stranded at the side of the circuit. Smith took the checkered flag in 15th position to end another encouraging race in the Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship.
Starting 15th for the final race of the weekend, Smith was targeting a strong end to the season opener. Ruby made a good start and was fighting for positions within the top-20 during lap one. Misfortune then struck as a technical issue forced her into the pits. Although Smith rejoined shortly after, she returned to the pits at the conclusion of the second lap and was forced to retire from the race.
Although it was an unfortunate end to the weekend, it was a hugely encouraging debut at Silverstone. Smith continued her progress from 2024 and established herself as a consistent top-15 challenger in just her second season of circuit racing.
She will now be looking to push towards the top-10 when the Demon Tweeks Audi TT Cup Racing Championship returns at the Oulton Park International circuit on Saturday 19th April.
