Karting talent Aurélia Nobels will step up to Formula 4 as she joins Blau Motorsport in the brand-new Brazilian single seater category. She will be the only woman on the grid.
Brazil will have its own Formula 4 championship in 2022, as the promoters of the popular Stock Car series announced the new addition to the support program. F4 Brazil will consist of 6 rounds with three races each and will feature the brand new Tatuus T-421, with Autotecnica engines and Pirelli tyres. The same car will also be employed in Italy, Germany, Spain, UAE, UK.
In a series-launch event, the racing drivers were announced via an innovative format: with a random draw, drivers were assigned to teams, similarly to some American sports.
Among the list of 16 was Aurélia Nobels, the only woman on the grid for the inaugural season. The 15-year-old was born in Boston, USA, from Belgian parents but was raised in Brazil.
She started racing in 2018 alongside her younger brother and both quickly started to climb the ranks of the national karting competitions.
In 2020, Aurélia was the only female entrant among 89 participants at the FIA Karting World Championship in Portimao; as part of the official BirelART squad she has in fact made appearances at some of the most important karting events in Europe, establishing herself as one of Brazil's most exciting up and coming talents.
Nobels, who is also part of the Shell Racing Academy, is now graduating to race cars and the launch of the Brazilian F4 championship is the perfect opportunity for the young lady to learn on the important platform of Stock Cars.
She joins Nicolas Monteiro, Lucas Staico and Lucca Zucchini at TMG Racing/Blau Motorsport.
"Very happy to announce that this year I will be with Blau Motorsport for the 2022 season of Formula 4 here in Brazil", she wrote. "I’m sure that we’ll do a great work together!! Very excited to start the races"
The championship is expected to get underway on 13-15 May at Autodromo Velo Città.
